THE NEW SAINTS 5 - 0 CITY
21 APRIL 2012
MIKE SMITH'S MATCH SUMMARY

TNS are the new WP champions after a convincing win over Bangor today

It all went wrong in the opening ten minutes after which City were left with too much to do.   Referee Morgan stamped his authority after Tranmere loanee Ryan Fraughan dived to win a penalty but turned round to see a yellow card a Bangor freekick.   But the warning was not heeded as Greg Draper ran through to beat the offside trap and net calmly within four minutes for his 20th WP goal of the season.

On seven minutes it was 2-0 as Christian Seargeant's twenty five yard freekick beat Lee Idzi low to his right and City had a mountain to climb.

In reality they never looked like doing so.

On 26 minutes it was all over bar the shouting as Greg Draper netted his second by chipping Lee Idzi and nodding home from close range with the Bangor defence in tattters.   It was 3-0 at the interval and - unlikely as it might seem - still a feeling that one goal might lift spirits and spark a remarkable fightback.

It was not be though as Ryan Fraughan waltzed through the blues defence to lash home from the left with a glimpse of the skill that his frame belies.   TNS missed a penalty before a second spot kick came along and Greg Draper scored with ten minutes left on the clock.

There were no more goals - in truth City rarely threatened - and as the game drifted on the only eye catching event was the gradual evacuation of Park Hall with City fans congregating in the woods behind Paul Harrison's goal in defiance of some unnecessary segregation.   So second best on the day and second best at the end of the season.   Of course European football has been booked once again in a season which has seen more good than bad. And under Powell, Limbert and co this is a Bangor side which will bounce back and push for honour once more.   Come on City!
