BANGOR CITY 0 - 3 HJK HELSINKI
UEFA CHAMPIONS' LEAGUE
13 JULY 2011
REPORT BY MIKE SMITH - MANY THANKS MIKE
The Finnish side took the lead just inside the quarter hour.
Tall midfielder Dawda Bah lifted the ball over the blues defence for a suspiciously offside looking Teemu Pukki to run through and square the ball for lanky centre forward Berat Sadiq to net from close range.
Nicky Ward fired on target for Bangor but goalkeeper Ville Wallen blocked.
The six times capped Finland international Berat Sadiq doubled the lead ten minutes after the interval despite Bangor starting the half on the front foot.
Bangor forced some corners and had a couple of loud claims for penalties turned down as the once banned referee seemed content to allow a good deal of holding and hugging in the box.
It was all over bar the shouting one minute from time when one time Leeds striker Sebastian Sorsa netted from the edge of the box.
The scoreline both flattered the visitors and unduly condemned a Bangor side which kept trying to push forward and play football.
But few could argue with an away win by a HJK side littered with full (and current) internationals.
So little short of a miracle needed at Helskinki and more for the dozen or so Finnish fans to celebrate than the blues faithful. A champions league bow and exit in one round perhaps but - here's hoping - we will be back next year and maybe even at Nantporth.
