Match preview

Bangor face Bala at Nantporth on Saturday

And with a European place still to play for there can still be a positive end to the season.

Bala Town though are in the best form of any team in the Welsh Premier having won all ten of their league matches since the split. And to make matters better or worse they beat Connahs Quay in their initial play off match at Maes Tegid last weekend.

Bala boss Colin Caton pretty much predicted this when his side narrowly missed out onBala Town v Connahs Quay sixth place. commenting then that it would be better all round winning more often than not instead of getting beaten in the championship "conference".  The Lakesiders won courtesy of a late Lee Hunt goal before a crowd of more than 400.

One key man in the Bala line up is everpresent goalkeeper Ashley Morris who has clocked up 32 WP appearances this season.

Former Denbigh Town defender Tony Davies and Stuart Jones are at the heart of the defence whilst the hugely experienced pairing of Kenny Lunt and Mark Jones have more than 800 English League & Cup appearances to their name.

The leading goalscorers are - inevitably - former blue Lee Hunt (17) and Ian Sheridan (10) who wil be keen to add to their tally at Nantporth.

Bangor boss Nev Powell has much to consider after Wrexham but third in the league and Welsh Cup Finalists is hardly reason to panic. The gloves will go to Lee Idzi who has my vote as the best goalkeeper in thie Welsh Premier, but who plays in front of him is less obvious. The badly wronged Michael Johnston - sent off by an out of breath referee - could be replaced by Kris Thomas or the versatile Dave Morley.

In midfield Levi Mackin missed out at Wrexham which suggests his season is over. City could be tempted to revert to 4-4-2 with local wingers Chris Jones and Sion Edwards looking to exploit the wide open spaces of Nantporth.

Upfront the usual suspects, leading goalscorer Chris Simm and talisman Les Davies seem certain starters.

All to play for - much to play for - and one eye after on what happens in the other semi down south..

Blues fans turned out in their hundreds at The Racecourse on Monday, even half that number would be a big boost against the in form visitors

Cmon City!
