The commentators on S4C and the odd neutral would have been the only ones happy at the end of this shoot out at the Old Gold Corral. Eight goals and an fourth minute red card - not for the partisan or faint hearted.

But before all that a minutes silence impeccably observed in memory of Welshpool based former FAW President Tegwyn Evans who died aged 84.

It all began with a fourth minute dismissal for former blue Kris Thomas whose last man pull on Chris Jones on the edge of the box had to mean red and credit to Mark Whitby he saw that it did despite the early stage of proceedings.

On nine minutes City took advantage as Joe Culshaw's sweeping pass found Jamie Petrie who glided down the right before beating eccentric goalkeeper Steven Cann with a low bouncing cross shot for his second goal in as many games. Carmarthen won a freekick, the first of many perhaps, which Matty Collins hit cleanly from twenty yards but Lee Idzi pouched safely.

On twelve minutes it was two nil to Bangor as Chris Jones' deep cross from the right reached Les Davies who turn and beat the hesitant Cann from six yards out on the left. Two nil and in control? Not quite as within five minutes the home side struck back as former Aber striker Jordan Follows showed great technique to volley home left footed as he latched onto a headed clearance from Luke Cummings right wing cross.

With half an hour gone City forced a couple of corners but a minute later it was two all as Christian Doidge reacted first to beat Lee Idzi from close range after Luke Bassetts shot span wickedly off a blues defender. Bangor responded with a right footed shot from Les Davies which Cann saved comfortably and a low cross from Jamie Petrie which no one could touch home.

A minute before the interval a deep cross from a freekick on the right from Sion Edwards struck Les Davies on the back with goalkeeper Cann clearly contemplating the half time cuppa and rolled into the unguarded net. Centreforward Doidge was shown the yellow card for dissent as the Old Gold claimed a foul but there was none to be seen.

So a narrow 3-2 interval lead and a man advantage for City as Mr Whitby blew for the break..

Inside the opening five minutes Les Davies released Ryan Edwards who passed to Sion Edwards but he sliced wide from twenty yards then the Maesgeirchen left footer crossed and Carmarthen could not clear but young Joe Culshaw shanked his effort well off target from eight yards.

Carmarthen were more than a match for City despite their numerical disadvantage and won three corners on the spin but City finally cleared before Kyle Basset headed well wide. On 58 minutes a double change for the hosts as Corey and Liam Thomas came on for goalscorer Follows and veteran Matty Collins.

Five minutes later Jamie McDaid replaced Sion Edwards and moments later Liam McCreesh might have seen red for a wild lunge on Les Davies but Referee Whitby opted for yellow.

City's talisman needed treatement on his injured ankle on and off the pitch and might have expected stronger action from the Swansea whistler.

With twenty minutes left of a disjointed affair Corey Jenkins came on for McCreesh who had been his usual niggly self.
With thirteen minutes left Lee Idzi saved well, Rob Jones cleared upfield and Jamie McDaid rounded Corey Thomas to beat Cann with a low drive that clipped the post and rolled in for his first competitive goal for the club. With ten minute remaining young Luke Gibson came on for Jamie Petrie and the Bangor defence were pressed into action with a series of tackles, blocks and clearances as Carmarthen threw caution to the wind. Jamie McDaid though broke down the right and selflessly squared to strike partner Les Davies but he shot at Cann who gathered easily.

On 85 minutes it was 4-3 thanks to Corey Thomas well flighted right footed free kick which flew over the Bangor wall and inside Lee Idzi's right hand post. Christian Doidge headed goalwards but Michael Johnston cleared off his line before with a minute left young John Owen came on for Les Davies.

From somewhere Referee Whitby found four minutes to add but Carmarthen need only two to level the scores. Yet another freekick this time from the right hand edge of the box was clipped in by Corey Thomas for Luke Cummings to head home unmarked from six yards.

And much to the relief and disappointment of the travelling blues that was about it as the score finished up four all.
