This goalless draw was far from drab and would have been an away win for Bangor but for a Man of The Match display by home goalkeeper Alex Ramsay.

City were able to re-instate Dec Walker at rightback and chose to leave out young Jamie McDaid in a 4-5-1 formation that served them well.

Attacking the main entrance end Bangor won a corner inside thirty seconds but could not threaten the home goal before Jon Bathurst fired well over eighty yards away. A second corner followed on five minutes before loud claims for a penalty against the veteran Mark Powell when the ball clearly did strike his hand on the edge of the box. Seen them given, seen them not.

The extra man in midfield gave Bangor the edge and forced former blue Mike Walsh to resort to a series of pushes and pulls whichconfirmed that City dominated possession. But on twenty minutes little Paul McManus pounced on the ball on the edge of the box. His shot though was half blocked by Damien Allen and caught by Lee Idzi.

City continued to press, Ryan Edwards and Rob Jones getting the better of the midfield scrap with Damien Allen passing the ball around pretty much at will. A fourth corner for the blues came and went but minutes later young Tom Roberts, once of Aston Villa, shot right footed from distance but Lee Idzi again saved comfortably. Then Jason Oswell shot but Michael Johnston blocked.

Bangor pushed forward once more with the impressive Sion Edwards seeing his shot turned away. The team swapped corners with City forcing a good save from Alex Ramsay then on the half hour the wandering Chris Jones crossed low from the righth but Jamie Petrie turned his first time effort just wide.

Rhyl responed and Jason Oswell should have done better on the left but he hesitated and City cleared. Ten minutes before the break a Bangor freekick 35 yards out on the left was crossed by Sion Edwards but Rob Jones headed over as he back peddled beyond the far post.

A sixth Bangor corner needlessly conceded by Matty Woodward came to nothing. Mike Walsh fouled Rob Jones and up stepped Sion Edwards to curl a goalbound effort into the top righthand corner but Ramsay pulled off a superb fingertip save to keep the scoreline blank.

In added time another foul by Mike Walsh, again on Rob Jones, and this time for former Nomad took responsibility himself but sent the freekick well over and Referee Whitby - who had done nothing wrong of note - blew for the break

HALF TIME 0-0 - A double change before the restart as Rhyl manager Greg Strong took off both midfielder Mark Powell and striker Jon Bathurst with Danny Laverty and Steve Lewis coming on.

And to some degree it worked. Certainly Laverty added some mobility to the midfield and Lewis proved a handful.

Ten minutes after the restart Jamie Petrie chased a ball into the box which Ramsay shephered out. Rhyl won a third corner of the afternoon which led to penalty claims for a foul on Oswell but nothing doing.

Consistency a fine thing by an official. On the hour Bangor might have gone ahead. Sion Edwards robbed the one paced Rimmer and slid in Jamie Petrie but the big centreback got back to clear off the line with Chris Jones lurking at the back post.

On 64 minutes a yellow card for Jason Oswell who was promptly replaced by Dave Forbes as Rhyl go for big and big upfront.

Within minutes young Ramsay was forced into the action again as Sion Edwards fed Jamie Petrie but the Llanfyllin glovesman was up to the task.

Next up the rampaging Dec Walker ran at the heart of the home defence but fired over from twenty yards. With nineteen minutes left Rhyl countered and won a fourth corner which substitute Forbes headed well over. Moments later Lewis cut in from the left and Lee Idzi was forced to save with his feet for a fifth corner to The Lilywhites but City repelled their lofty assailants.

With fifteen minutes to go a great save by Ramsay as Chris Jones pounced on a comedy error by Chris Rimmer whose wild clearance struck Paul McManus and ran to the Nefyn marksman. Ramsay rushed out and spread himself Schmeichel style but saved with his nose which bled profusely and a lengthy stoppage ensued. The goalkeeper was yellow carded for comments passed.

Ten to go as Anthny Miley won a ninth corner for Bangor but within seconds Rhyl broke for Steve Lewis to charge into the box and finish off with an impressive dive. Penalty claimed the home fans. No said Mr Whitby and brandished a yellow card at the burly striker. Well done again to the whistler.

Sion Edwards shot over on the turn before at the ninety minute mark Jamie McDaid came on for Chris Jones. Five minutes were added, mainly due to the nose injury, but as the whistle drew near it was Rhyl who pressed and City who cleared to finish off the first ever goalless draw between the two sides in the Welsh Premier.

So honours even, a goalkeeping display to be proud of by young Ramsay and a good away point for City.
