A tale of two halves, one dominated by the visitors and the other by Bangor. And a truly fantastic goal from Sion Edwards..

With Dec Walker injured City opted to move Ryan Edwards to rightback but luckily had Damien Allen fit to resume in his midfield role. Upfront Jamie McDaid started alongside Jamie Petrie as City attacked the Bridge End on a still and quite mild November afternoon at Nantporth.

Inside two minutes Sion Edwards tested loanee goalkeeper Mullock with a clean low drive before Robins leftback Max Penk ballooned his effort over moments later. Both sides won and wasted corners but gradually the visitors got a grip on proceedings and City were forced to defend. Anthony Miley and Michael Johnston stood strong with Ryan Edwards also nipping in for some important interceptions as Newtown imposed their passing game around Matty Cook and Tom Goodwin.

On twenty minutes Anthony Miley was shown the yellow card for a mistimed tackle but, as tends to happen, moments later Newtown rightback Craig Williams did much the same before kicking the ball away, but with no action taken. Rob Jones gathered the ball thirty yards out but his ambtious shot flew well wide.

With Matty Cook and Tom Goodwin doing well in midfield the Mid Wales side pushed forward and it was no surprise when they took the lead on the half hour. Sean Evans released Craig Williams on the right, he crossed and Luke Boundford netted at the second attempt after Lee Idzi had done well to keep out his intiial header.

Minutes later Michael Johnston was carded for a trip on half way before Sean Evans ran clear to the left but sent a weak effort wide of Lee Idzi and the Bangor goal. As time started to run out Bangor managed to get a toehold in the game. With seven minutes left until the break Jamie Petrie cut in and Shane Sutton deflected his shot out for a second corner which gave home fans something to cheer. But Newtown, with Mills-Evans and Sutton strong in the air, cleared.

On the balance of play City might have taken a single goal deficit at the interval. But no one had talked that through with left winger Sion Edwards who turned on the right, stepped infield and unleashed an unbelievable dipping volley from 35 yards which left goalkeeper Mullock motionless and for once speechless. Another great goal from Sion whose personal "Goal of the Season" competition is a class apart.

One minute of added time came to nothing and the teams ran off at one all with Bangor clearly the happier with a level scoreline..

HALF TIME 1-1: No changes at the interval.

But buoyed by that fantastic goal before the break it was Bangor who pushed forward towards the City End. The first threat though came from a Newtown corner which City promptly cleared upfield for Jamie McDaid to run at the centrebacks before finding Sion Edwards who shot was blocked and McDaid's follow up pouched low by Mullock.

Newtown though were left shaking their heads in disbelief moments later as Lee Idzi pulled off an astonishing triple save at his left post from Tom Goodwin and then Jeff White twice before help arrived and the ball was whacked away. City won a third corner of the afternoon and Ryan Edwards' shot was deflected to Jamie Petrie but Newtown cleared.

On 53 minutes Bangor had a penalty. Chris Jones crossed from the right and Jamie Petrie's header was handled by Max Penk who was yellow carded for his sins. Up stepped Chris Jones whose low drive down the middle beat Chris Mullock and smashed into the back of the net for a two one lead.

Robins winger Sean Evans saw his low shot spin across goal and to safety before young Caernarfon striker Jamie McDaid started to show his vast potential for City. First he sped round Mills Evans and crossed for Sion Edwards whose shot was blocked. Then more of the same past the floundering Mills Evans but this time Chris Jones sliced wide from the edge of the box.

By now Chris Jones was finding gaps the in the visitors defence, Damien Allen was prominent in midfield and the visitors seemed to have all but run out of steam. In particular young Goodwin who had enjoyed a busy first half.

Midway through the half McDaid again round the defence on the left - Mills Evans pulling him back all the way - and this time Rob Jones sliced wide then with twenty minutes to go Chris Jones slid the ball through for Jamie McDaid to the right but Mullock dashed off his line to crash the ball out for a goal kick.

On 73 minutes young Joe Culshaw was carded for a foul on the rampaging - but often not recovering - Craig Williams which brought about a freekick which Bangor cleared. With seven minutes to go a last throw of the dice for The Robins as Zac Evans and Callum Wright came on in place of Tom Goodwin and Jeff White.

Newtown won a late corner but again Bangor stood firm and in added time John Littlemore replaced Jamie McDaid with the young striker receiving a standing ovation as he left the field. Well done. The nineteen year old had run the Newtown defence ragged in the second half and played a big part in the Bangor win.

And that was about it. Three points and a deserved home win on the back of a much improved second half performance.
