Bangor City’s 2008/09 Academy season is underway. The club is delighted that the majority of players who were signed to the academy last season have accepted the invitation to return for the new term. Ioan Llewelyn will be Head of Youth Development for the season and he will lead the academy along with Academy director Neville Powell.
A number of new coaches have joined the Academy for the forthcoming season. The club wish to welcome Sion Parry, Haydn Jones, Phil Lynes and Gethin Jefferies to the coaching staff.

Training sessions for the new season will be held every Monday evening on the astro at Plas Ffrancon Bethesda for the Under 12, Under 14 and the Under 16 age groups. The times for the U12 and U14 sessions will be at 5.45-7.15pm whilst the U16’s will train from 7- 8.30pm. Training sessions for the Under 10’s and 11’s will take place every Thursday from 6 – 7.30pm also at Plas Ffrancon, Bethesda. Goalkeeping training takes place on Thursday evenings. All goalkeepers aged 14 and under will train from 6-7 whilst all goalkeepers 15 and over will train from 7-8.
The Academy will be competing in the Welsh Premier Academy League and Cup for the U12’s, U14’s and U16’s age group. Additionally, the U11 and U10 age groups will be competing in the Tom Yeoman Tournament.

Welfare Officer - Myrddyn Hughes. Myrddyn has been a conscientious contributor to the Academy for the past three seasons. We are delighted that Myrddyn has accepted the Academy’s invitation to continue his role as Welfare Officer for the new season.
Academy Coaches -
Sion Parry (Under 14’s): Sion is currently working towards his UEFA ‘C’ licence coaching badge. He has a wealth of playing experience. Sion played for Warrington Town in the North West Counties League whilst gaining a BA degree in Sport Studies at Warrington University. He has also played for Llangefni Town FC in the Welsh Premier League. Sion has been coaching Llandegfan Juniors for the past three seasons.
Haydn Wyn Jones (Under 12’s): Haydn, an ex-Tranmere Rovers schoolboy, has recently returned to Wales following a 10 year stint in the USA. After representing Wales at Under 18 schoolboys, he gained a Soccer Scholarship at Rio Grande University, Ohio. After graduating, he became Director of Youth Development at the Stars Soccer Club in Atlanta, Georgia. Additionally he was the Head Coach at the Gallia Academy. Haydn is currently working towards his UEFA ‘B’ licence coaching badge.
Ioan Llewelyn (Under 16’s): Ioan is currently working towards his UEFA ‘B’ licence coaching badge. He has been a coach at the Academy for the past 4 seasons and is currently studying for his MSc in Sport Science at Bangor University. Ioan has playing experience at the Cymru Alliance level with Llanfairpwll and Holyhead Hotspur.
Phil Lynes (Under 11): Phil is currently working towards his UEFA ‘B’ licence coaching badge. He is an ex-Caernarfon Town Academy coach and has been greatly involved in the coaching set up at Llanrug Juniors. Phil is also a keen player and is currently competing in the Caernarfon & District league for Llanrug.
Gethin Jeffries (Under 10’s): Gethin is a product of the Academy and was one of the first to attend when the academy was first established. He currently plays for Bangor City Reserves and is regarded as a highly promising young prospect. Gethin is a coach at the Soccer Schools held in Plas Ffrancon, Bethesda. He is currently working towards his UEFA ‘C’ licence coaching badge.
Mathew Parry (Goalkeeping Coach): This is Mathew’s second season with the Academy. He has represented Wales at Youth level and began his senior playing career at Liverpool. Mathew has also played for Northwich Victoria in the Conference, Bangor City in the Welsh Premier and is currently playing for Colwyn Bay in the Unibond League. Mathew is currently working towards his UEFA ‘B’ goalkeeping licence coaching badge .
