NEW SIGNING: We are delighted to announce the signing of left-sided midfielder / forward Mark Smyth. This will be Mark's second spell at City. He was originally signed for us by Steve Bleasdale in December 2006, and followed Steve to Leigh RMI at the start of last season before signing for Witton Albion.
Mark is a skilful left footed 24 year old who can play on either side of midfield and in attack. Confirming City's latest acquisition, manager Neville Powell commented, "The pieces are falling together in the jigsaw, with Mark a more than useful addition to the squad. He will not only be a quality midfield replacement for Chris Seargeant, but will also chip in with quite a few goals - which we lacked towards the end of last season. With the high quality we now have in the squad we will be a real force to be recckoned with. With attackers Les Davies, Chris Sharp, Ashley Stott and Mark Smyth in our squad; and with Dave Morley having strengthened our defence, we have to be optimistic about the forthcoming season.’
NEW SIGNINGS - STOTTI RETURNS: We are pleased to confirm that striker Ashley Stott and defender / midfielder David Morley have signed for City. "Stotti" of course rejoins the club he left just over a year ago for a spell with Halifax Town and will significantly add to our already powerful forward line-up. In the two seasons he was previously with City, Ashley scored 30 goals in 59 Welsh Premier appearances, and scored the opener in our Welsh Cup win against Llanelli last year.
David Morley joins us from Hyde United, having also played for Manchester City, Carlisle and Doncaster Rovers.
Meanwhile, we can also confirm that midfielder Chris Seargeant has left Farrar Road to join The New Saints FC. Chris has been an extremely popular member of the team and will be particularly remember for his injury-time equaliser in the Welsh Cup final referred to above.
We welcome our new signings, and wish Chris all the very best in future.
RACECOURSE TO STAGE EURO TIES: The home leg of Bangor City's Europa Cup matches will be played at Wrexham's Racecourse stadium, the Welsh Cup holders have announced. "We are extremely grateful to Wrexham FC for co-operating with us in this, "said a Bangor City spokesman "and we are looking forward to North Wales fans seeing some top-class entertainment in this exciting new competition."
City will know their opponents when the draw for the second qualifying round is made at UEFA headquarters in Switzerland on 22 June. Amongst the big names in City's draw are Turkish giants Galatasaray, Austrian outfit Rapid Vien and, nearer home, Irish teams St Patrick's Athletic and Derry City.
