COUNCIL GIVES GO-AHEAD TO STATE-OF-THE-ART TRAINING FACILITIES FOR CITY

Plans to make Bangor City FC’s new Nantporth stadium a true community facility for North West Wales have been given a major boost.

Gwynedd Council’s Planning Committee has approved plans for the development of a state-of-the art 3G artificial-surface training pitch on the site.

“Being given the go-ahead for this significant enhancement to the Nantporth plans is a major vote of confidence in the overall project”, said Bangor City Chairman Dilwyn Jones.

“We have always stated that we wanted Nantporth to be of benefit not just to Bangor City Football Club, but to the wider community. This planning approval means that we can now seek funding for the development of the 3G pitch, which we expect will be of massive benefit to sporting and community groups throughout North West Wales.“

“At this moment, we are not aware of any other plans in the pipeline for anything similar in the region, which is crying out for a high-class facility along the lines of what we are looking to develop. I am confident that we can continue to draw on the support of our partners in the public and private sectors, and of course the local community, to help us achieve our ambition.”

“Work is progressing well on the main football pitch and surrounding infrastructure at Nantporth, and this is expected to be completed in January 2012”, concluded Jones.
