Dylan Williams young team bowed out of the FAW Youth Cup after a 1-0 defeat at home to The New Saints on Sunday.
City started brightly and hit the bar within 5 minutes with a header from a corner. The New Saints responded by creating 2 successive corners and from the second one Jordan Wells connected to give the visitors the lead. Both teams were creating chances and Bangor's best chance so far came on 34 minutes when a lovely ball from the left wing caught the TNS defence by surprise. Shaun Cavanagh collected the ball 35 yards out and fired across the face of goal from a tight angle.
The first yellow card of the day for Bangor City arrived in the 36th minute when Rhys Cooper was adjudged to have fouled a TNS player. Five minutes before the half time interval City were forced to make their first substitution when goalkeeper Gethin Roberts landed awkwardly after jumping for the ball and had to be stretchered off to be replaced by Jordan Griffiths.
Alwyn Roberts replaced Rhys Cooper for the start of the second half and Bangor City pushed hard for the equaliser. With 49 minutes on the clock the hosts were awarded a free kick 40 yards from goal and Sam Faulkner was unlucky to see his superb free kick deflected wide for a corner. Four minutes later City had another free kick but this time Faulkner blasted high and wide.
Dylan Thomas was the next player to receive a yellow card for dissent. As the game passed the hour mark The New Saints won a corner which 'keeper Griffiths was forced to punch clear. City were still looking for a goal and a great move down the left wing almost brought the reward as Cavanagh unleash a shot that whistled past the left hand post.
On 64 minutes the yellow card was out again as Sam Faulkner received a yellow card for dissent. Minutes later he received his second yellow – and red. As Faulkner challenged for the ball he received a kick to the face with the ball already gone. His reaction was enough for the referee to issue the second yellow and City were down to 10 men.
In the remaining minutes both Warrington and Walker created chances but the game ended in a 1-0 defeat.
